RV Slideout & Leveling Repair in Sebastian

Slideout stuck halfway? Jacks grinding and refusing to level? We diagnose and repair slideout motors, seals, hydraulic leveling systems, and electric jacks on-site across Indian River County.

What We Fix and Why It Matters

Slideouts and leveling systems are the most mechanically complex features in any RV. They involve motors, gears, hydraulic pumps, fluid lines, electronic controllers, and sensors, all working together to move thousands of pounds of living space in and out or lift your entire RV off its tires. When something fails, it is rarely convenient. A slideout stuck in the extended position means you cannot drive. Jacks that will not retract mean you are parked until the problem is solved.

In Sebastian and across Indian River County, these systems face extra stress from the climate. Florida's humidity averages 74 percent, and in the summer months it often sits above 85 percent. That constant moisture works its way into electrical connections, corrodes hydraulic fittings, and degrades the rubber seals that keep water out of your slideout opening. We see slideout seals fail in 3 to 4 years here that would last 6 to 8 years in Arizona or Nevada.

The salt air from the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic coast adds another layer of corrosion risk. Hydraulic cylinders, jack mounting brackets, and exposed wiring are all vulnerable. Sand, which is everywhere in Florida, works its way into slideout tracks and gear mechanisms, accelerating wear. If you park on the beach at Sebastian Inlet State Park or camp at Long Point Park, your slideout system is getting a fine grit treatment every time the wind blows.

We work on every major slideout mechanism: Schwintek in-wall systems, cable-driven slideouts, hydraulic slideouts from HWH and Lippert, and rack-and-pinion systems. For leveling, we service Lippert ground control, HWH leveling, Bigfoot automatic systems, and manual stabilizer jacks. Patrick carries the most common replacement motors, seals, and controller boards on the service truck so most repairs can be completed in a single visit.

If your slideout is stuck and you need to move the RV, we can walk you through the manual override process over the phone. Most systems have one, but the procedure is different for every brand and model. If that does not work or you are not comfortable doing it yourself, we offer same-day emergency service for stuck slideouts within our Sebastian service area.

All slideout and leveling work follows manufacturer specifications. We use the correct torque values, fluid types, and seal materials specified for your system. Using the wrong hydraulic fluid in an HWH system, for instance, will destroy the seals. Using non-OEM seals on a Schwintek system leads to premature failure and water intrusion. Details matter, and we get them right.

Four Steps to a Working Slideout

From your first call to a fully tested slideout or leveling system. Here is exactly what happens.

Call or text us

Describe what is happening. Is the slideout stuck in or out? Are the jacks making noise? We will bring the right tools and parts for your specific system.

On-site diagnosis

We test the motor, controller, hydraulic lines, seals, and wiring. For leveling systems, we check sensors, pumps, and calibration to pinpoint the failure.

Quote and approval

You get an exact price before any work begins. We explain the problem and the fix in plain language so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Repair and test

We complete the repair and cycle the slideout or leveling system multiple times under load to verify everything operates correctly before we leave.

Slideout & Leveling FAQ

First, check the obvious: make sure the ignition is on (or the battery disconnect is off), and look for a tripped breaker or blown fuse in the 12-volt panel. If those check out, most slideout systems have a manual override. On Schwintek systems, it is a crank tool that inserts into the motor shaft. On hydraulic systems, there is usually a manual bypass valve. If you cannot find the override or the slideout still will not move, call us and we can talk you through it over the phone or come out the same day.

Schwintek systems use two electric gear motors mounted inside the slideout walls. They are lighter, quieter, and more common on travel trailers and lighter fifth wheels. Hydraulic systems use a pump, fluid reservoir, and hydraulic cylinders to push the room out. They handle heavier loads and are found on larger fifth wheels and Class A motorhomes. Both systems are reliable, but they fail differently. Schwintek motors wear out their gears over time. Hydraulic systems develop seal leaks and lose fluid pressure.

Every 3 months in Florida. The combination of UV, heat, and humidity in Indian River County degrades rubber and foam seals much faster than in northern states. Look for cracks, compression set where the seal stays permanently flat, gaps between the seal and the body, and any signs of water staining on the interior walls near the slideout opening. A $150 seal replacement now prevents a $3,000 water damage repair later.

Calibration procedures vary by manufacturer. For Lippert ground control systems, you park on a confirmed level surface, extend all jacks until the bubble level reads center, then hold the auto-level button for 5 seconds until it beeps. For HWH systems, the process involves the touch panel menu. Bigfoot systems have their own sequence. If the calibration does not hold or the system keeps throwing errors, the problem is usually a bad sensor or a controller board issue, not operator error. We handle all major leveling brands.

Florida's average humidity of 74 percent creates a constant moisture environment that accelerates seal degradation. Rubber seals absorb moisture, swell, then dry out and crack in the sun. The cycle repeats daily in Sebastian's climate. Mold and mildew also grow on seal surfaces, which further breaks down the material. We see seals in Florida that need replacement in 3 to 4 years, while the same seals in dry climates last 6 to 8 years.

For Schwintek systems, remove the interior trim panel to access the motor, insert the manual crank tool into the motor shaft, and turn it clockwise to retract. For hydraulic systems, locate the manual bypass valve (usually near the pump under the RV), open it, and push the slideout in by hand or with a helper. For rack-and-pinion systems like Norco, there is typically a release lever. Always disconnect 12-volt power before manually overriding any slideout to prevent the motor from engaging while you work.

A single Schwintek motor replacement runs $250 to $600 installed, depending on the motor model and how accessible it is. Hydraulic cylinder replacement is typically $400 to $1,200 because the parts cost more and the job involves bleeding the hydraulic system. In most cases, we can replace the motor on-site in 2 to 4 hours. We stock the most common Schwintek and Lippert motors on our truck.

Common signs include jacks that extend but will not retract (or the reverse), the system takes noticeably longer to level than it used to, the RV slowly settles to one side after leveling, hydraulic fluid puddles under the RV, error codes on the leveling control panel, and grinding or chattering noises during operation. If the jacks are electric, intermittent operation usually points to a bad motor or corroded connections. Hydraulic jack issues are typically seal failures or low fluid.
